Malaga

I had the pleasure of spending a few days in the city of Malaga

 after staying in our house at the costa the days before.

Have been visiting the city a couple of times in the past, but this time I really felt the life, atmosphere and spirit of this fantastic place.

Rio Chillar, a hidden gem

After spending the whole summer in Spain I'm now ready 

to do some blogging again, I think. 

Always love to come back to Spain. You may think it could be boring to always stay at the same place, see the same people, eat at the same restaurants and visit the same beach........ and honestly it sometimes is!

But it is also very exiting to read books about this lovely country and then plan excursions. I simply love the mountains behind the Costa and each year we visit a new place. And this year we ended up in the river!

The route cuts through the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park, offering plenty of shade, crystal clear river pools and guarantees a brilliant day out for the whole family. The walk starts easy and will sometimes be a bit of challenge, but most people will handle it. Most important is good shoes (beach shoes with rubber sole is not good enough, I tried!) , sunscreen, water and a snack.

Be aware: In summer it could be busy especially in weekends when locals find their way, and when there has been rainfall in the mountains.

There is no better way to cool off on a hot summer's day.

Having a great time in Spain as always.

I made these glass jars the other day.

Simple kitchen jars with a lid that my son made holes in

with a screwdriver so it could fit a straw.

Fill it up with whatever you want,

you'll avoid spilling, sand or insects in it.

And perfect to bring to the beach or to the picnic......

And to fill them I suggest,

White Sangria

Slice some fruits
(I used orange, lime, lemon and grapes)
fill a quarter up with ice cubes
top it with 50/50 white wine and Sprite/7up

Or skip the wine and replace it with sparkling water for a non alcohol drink.

Under the Spanish sun

 I had precisely 1 week in Luxembourg after our Spanish easter holiday until I was back. Had about 8 h to plan my trip, well not much planning though since the only task I had was to clean the house and make it ready for the boys who stayed for a long weekend.

Being alone in Spain for 4 days for the first time was a bit of challenge must say. Usually I have children or other family around me who need to be entertained more or less the whole time. 

But honestly, 4 days alone in Spain wasn't to bad.....

Semana Santa 2014

Again we headed south to Spain for our "Semana Santa" holiday. How they celebrate Easter is so different from how we do it in Norway.

 And I love how they do it!

Sierra Nevada

There are not many places in the world where you can ski during the day and have a dip in the sea in the early evening, but the proximity of Sierra Nevada and the Med allows this! We decided to try this out during our winter holiday in Spain and for a beginner like myself 2 nights were booked. There are 20 lifts and 100km of piste in Sierra Nevada and weekends could be rather busy so we headed up on a Monday. Not the best weather when arriving but got the chance to find out where to buy day passes and where to hire skies and equipment.

Skied on Tuesday and Wednesday and had a great time! Especially on Wednesday with amazing weather and my confident on skies went better.......

Went back home to our house and the beach later that day. With only 2 h drive from the house to the slopes we will definitely try this again, perhaps only for a day trip. My opinion is that the hotels, bars and restaurants in the area do not have the standard you are paying for, so I prefer to go just for the skiing!!

A week in Spain

Spent my half term holiday in Spain in our villa at the Costa del Sol.

The weather was lovely and we went in the pool every day, even a swim in the ocean. Decided to travel light this time so left my camera at home, but the Iphone does the job. Here are some "feel good" memories from last week.

Black or White?

I'm sitting here in a windy and rainy Luxembourg and think about our Spanish home. Every time I'm a bit bored all these ideas pop up in my head. 

Right now it is:

Should I paint the kitchen in white or black,

or just let it be nature colored?

Castellar de la Frontera

This little village dating back from the Bronze age is perched on a hilltop and has fabulous views over the Gibraltar and the surroundings.

It's famous for the fortress but has since early 70ties been taking over by hippies and some of them are still there. For me it was the narrow streets and the Moorish architecture that was appealing. Not many find their way this time of year, but can imagine it'll be busy during the summer months.

Gaucin

This village is one of famous "pueblos blancos" in Andalucia.

On a clear day (which we didn't have) you can see the Atlantic, the Med, Gibraltar and the Riff Mountains in Morocco at the same time. 

Absolutely a place to visit and to have lunch, had ours at the main square. 

Many tapas dishes were served and little we paid.

Miss.....
